A former Director of the Ilorin Business School (IBS), Prof. Gafar Ijaiya, has been appointed into the Advisory Group of the National Opportunities and Resilience Index (NORI) project.

The appointment is contained in a letter addressed to Prof. Ijaiya and signed by the Executive Director, Policy Innovation Centre, Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), Dr Osasuyi Dirisu, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN Bulletin last Monday (April 27, 2026).

According to the letter, Prof. Ijaiya’s appointment is based on his “expertise and guidance”, which it said would be “instrumental in informing the strategic direction of the study and ensuring that its outcomes are credible, inclusive and aligned with national priorities”.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has welcomed the appointment of the erudite teacher into the influential body.

In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole said that the appointment is a perfect choice considering Prof. Ijaiya’s fascinating credentials and intimidating pedigrees as a versatile economist and administrator.

The Vice Chancellor, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), expressed the conviction that Prof. Ijaiya, who is a former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, would be an invaluable asset to the Group and the nation at large, particularly at this point in time when all hands should be on desk towards an effective revamp of the nation’s struggling economy.

While thanking the NESG for recognising the worth of the Professor of Economics, the Vice Chancellor wished Prof. Ijaiya a very successful and impactful tenure.
