UNILORIN to host 42nd SOSAN hybrid conference

The University of Ilorin will host the 42nd Annual National Conference of the Social Studies Educationists Association of Nigeria (SOSAN) from August 17 to 20, 2026 at the University Auditorium.
This is contained in a notification made available to UNILORIN Bulletin last Monday, (April 27, 2026) by the Local Organising Committee of the Conference.
According to the notification, the theme of the conference is “Social, Citizenship and Heritage Studies for National Resilience, Civic Responsibility and Sustainable Development.”
The notification explained that the conference is expected to be attended by scholars, educators and policy stakeholders from across Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking on the significance of the conference, the Head of the Department of Social Sciences Education, Prof. Hamdallat T. Yusuf, said the conference is timely for Nigeria.
Prof. Yusuf explained that “SOSAN 2026 is our collective stand for national resilience and civic responsibility,” and that “history will record who stood for their safety.”
She noted that participants are expected to arrive on Monday, August 17, 2026 while the opening ceremony and first plenary session will hold on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The don further explained that the plenary sessions and the Annual General Meeting are slated for Wednesday, August 19, 2026 as the conference is scheduled to come to an end on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Prof. Yusuf disclosed that the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, would serve as the Chief Host while the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Olukanni Lanre Olaitan, would be the Principal Host.
She added that Prof. Dauda Adeyemi Ariya of the University of Jos will deliver the keynote address while Prof. Bilqees Olayinka Abdul-Raheem of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, will present the lead paper.
