As this year’s raining season sets in,  the immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Ilorin, Prof. Abayomi Omotesho, has advised farmers around Ilorin, particularly members of staff of the University, to always feel free to approach the institution’s Department of Agronomy for quality advice on better farming options and practices.

Prof. Omotesho, who is also a former Director of the Academic Planning Unit of the University, gave this advice penultimate Sunday (April 25, 2026) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin on telephone.

The former Deputy Vice Chancellor said that the Department has developed several drought resistant seedlings, which farmers can use to ensure bumper harvest.

He added that the Department  also has a team of dedicated experts led by Dr Foluso Bankole who is ready to provide them with quality advice on how to go about their agricultural enterprises, particularly in the type of seeds they could plant.

Prof. Omotesho, who also served as the Chairman of the University of Ilorin Branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), said that there could not be a better time to start planting than now as he said that the Department of Agronomy is in the position to provide moral support to farmers on where and how they can get better seeds.
