The University Librarian of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, has  announced the extension of access to the University’s plagiarism detection platform to all postgraduate students as part of efforts targeted at strengthening academic integrity and research quality.

Prof. Omopupa disclosed this last Monday (April 27, 2026) while speaking at a symposium organised by the Postgraduate Students Association (POGSASS), University of Ilorin Chapter at the University Auditorium.

The University Librarian explained that the initiative underscores the commitment of the University to upholding global best practices in research and academic writing.

According to Prof. Omopupa, access to the plagiarism checker was previously restricted to Deans and Postgraduate Coordinators across Faculties.

He, however, noted that the University has taken a further step to make the platform accessible to every postgraduate student, especially those on Master and doctorate degree programmes.

Prof. Omopupa said that the development would enable students to independently assess their theses, assignments, and research papers before submission.

He added that the initiative is expected to significantly enhance the quality of academic outputs and improve chances of students publishing in reputable professional journals.

The University Librarian also urged postgraduate students to submit their details through their coordinators in order to facilitate seamless enrolment on the platform.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the University  to promoting academic excellence, integrity, and innovation among its postgraduate community.
