The Mykolas Roments University (MRU), Lithuania, has expressed its readiness to seek the support of the University of Ilorin towards the development and implementation of its proposed Arabic Language programmes.
This desire was unveiled by Prof. Tamosuniene Lora of the Faculty of Human and Social Studies, MRU, while assessing the visitation of a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Arabic and Transnational Studies, University of Ilorin, Dr Abdulhakeem Zubair, to her University.
Prof. Lora said that the exciting performance of the UNILORIN don, who previously served as an Assistant Director at the Centre for International Education (CIE) of the University, encouraged MRU to include Arabic language courses in its academic curriculum.
Reacting, Dr Zubair said that the desire of MRU represents a significant opportunity for the University of Ilorin to export academic expertise to a European University and strengthen institutional partnership under the Erasmus+ framework.
The renowned Arabist said that the proposed partnership would also enhance the international visibility and reputation of the University of Ilorin.
Dr Zubair, who was at MRU on Erasmus+ Mobility Opportunities in March, 2026, encouraged the University of Ilorin to swiftly formalise the envisaged cooperation with MRU regarding the proposed Arabic Language programmes and explore additional opportunities for both staff and students as well as establish a dedicated liaison to cooperate with MRU on its Arabic language initiative.
The don expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for approving the mobility opportunity and the management of MRU for their warm hospitality and academic support.
