Gathering of ‘who-is-who’, as Egbewole’s son weds in Ibadan

The ancient city of Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, was agog on Saturday, April 25, 2026, as Qasim Egbewole, son of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, tied the nuptial knot with his heartthrob, Zainab Aleem, at a colourful ceremony held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

The conjugal bliss attracted dignitaries from academia, the bar, traditional, religious, and political institutions, who thronged the wedding venue to celebrate with the Egbewole family.

The well-attended occasion was chaired by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, who was represented by the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Emeritus Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede.

Other eminent personalities who graced the event included the Chairman of the University of Ilorin Governing Council, Surv. Abiodun Jacob Aluko; Governing Council Members, the first Kuliya Ngeri of Ilorin, Prof. Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu (SAS) representing Ogun Central Senatorial District; a representative of the Ooni of Ife; Principal Officers of the University of Ilorin, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Lere Adeyemi; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (RTI), Prof. Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye;  the Registrar, Mr. Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the Bursar, Mr. Abiodun Lawal; the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Babatunde Omopupa; the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Biodun Sulyman Alabi; and the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Abdulrasheed Adeoye.

Others were former Deputy Vice Chancellors, Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, Prof. Suleiman Funsho Ambali, and Prof. Abayomi Omotesho; the immediate past Bursar, Mr. Akeem Sonde; (the Chief Imam of the University of Ilorin Central Mosque, Prof. Nasir AbdusSalam; several Deans and former Deans, many Directors and former Directors, and several other top University officials.

Also in attendance were the Chief Imam of Ifeland, Alhaji AbdulSemiu AbdulHammed; the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Ismail Alebiosu; among other traditional rulers; the Director of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Prof. Ishaq Lakin Akintola; a veteran Journalist, Publicist, and former Editor of The Punch newspaper, Alhaji Najeem Jimoh; as well as renowned Management Consultant and Proprietor of Iqra College, Ilorin, Dr Aliu Badmus

Others were Vice Chancellor-members of the Consortium of Kwara Universities (Ku8+), including Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh of Kwara State University, Malete; Prof. Abdullateef Oladimeji of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin; Prof. Abdulrasheed Gbenga Jimoh of Muhammad Kamaluddeen University, Ilorin; Prof. Abdulrauf Ambali of AbdulRasaq Abubakar Toyin University; Ilorin; Prof. Medinat Folohunso Salman of the Kwara State University of Education; Ilorin; Prof. Kazeem Alagbe Gbolagade of the University of Offa; Prof. Francisca Oladipo of Thomas Adewumi University, Oko; Prof. Ali Audu Sanni of Ahman Pategi University; Prof. Abiodun Musa Aibinu of Summit University, Offa; and Prof. Muftau Ijaiya of Jimoh Babalola University, Ilorin.

Also present were the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adenike Temidayo Oladiji; the Vice Chancellor of the African School of Economics (The Pan-African University of Excellence), Abuja, Prof. Mahfouz Adedimeji; and the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Prof. Noah Yusuf.

In his sermon at the programme, Prof. AbdulAfeez Oladosu of the University of Ibadan admonished the newly-wedded couple to live together with undiluted love, affection, and the fear of Allah so as to have a peaceful, enduring, and happy married life.

The University don also enjoined the couple to always resolve matters between them amicably and not allow third parties in their affairs, pointing out that third-party involvement would do more harm than good to their union.

Prof. Oladosu pointed out that marriage comes with trials and tribulations, pains and gains, and urged the new couple to be patient, considerate, and persevere.

The, who quoted Qur’an 3:133-134 and Qur’an 30:20 copiously to buttress his points, reminded the couple of their civic responsibilities in accordance with Islamic injunctions.

He admonished the couple to build their home on love, mutual respect, and the fear of Allah.

The solemnisation was conducted by Dr. Mudashir Atanda Bada, who counselled the couple to follow the path of Allah and do everything within their power to sustain and keep their union going.

Also in his sermon, Dr. Y.K. Jummah described the union as a meeting of two distinguished families and urged the new couple to take a cue from the exemplary lives of their parents.

Similarly, Prof. Abdulrasaq Abdulmajeed Alaro enjoined the couple to live together with the fear of Allah and build a good name for themselves just like their parents, pointing out that 99 per cent of the people in attendance came at the instance of their parents.
