The University of Ilorin Students’ Union has assured the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Lérè Adeyemi, of their support and commitment to sustaining peace within the University.
The Union gave this assurance last Thursday (April 9 2026) when members of its Executive Committee paid a courtesy visit to the new Deputy Vice Chancellor in his office.
Speaking during the visit, the President of the Student Union, Mr Idris Adelu, who reiterated the commitment of his team to responsible leadership and constructive engagement, said that the visit was aimed at fostering cordial working relationship between the student leadership and the University management.
Noting that the Union would continue to serve as a bridge between students and the authorities, the President assured the new Deputy Vice Chancellor of their readiness to mobilise their colleagues towards ensuring peaceful coexistence, compliance with institutional regulations, and active participation in initiatives that would promote academic excellence.
The President further appealed for sustained support from the University management in addressing students’ concerns, particularly in areas relating to welfare, infrastructure, and timely communication of policies affecting the student body.
In his response, Prof. Adeyemi expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of maturity and shared responsibility.
Prof. Adeyemi emphasised that peace remains a collective duty and urged the student leaders to continue to engage constructively with the management.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor assured the Union of an open-door policy, stressing that the management is committed to listening to students’ grievances and working collaboratively to find lasting solutions.
He also encouraged the Union to promote unity among students and discourage acts capable of disrupting the academic calendar of the University.
Also speaking, the Ag. Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Alex Akanmu, commended the Students’ Union for displaying a deep sense of responsibility.
He noted that effective communication between students and management is key to preventing conflicts and fostering mutual understanding.
Dr Akanmu urged the Union leaders to remain good ambassadors of the student body and to always prioritise dialogue over confrontation in addressing issues.
