UNILORIN Alumni Spotlight is on Isiwat Ayinke Lawal (née Akanbi) – Class of 2000!
Engineer Isiwat Ayinke Lawal (née Akanbi), FNSE, is a distinguished Mechanical Engineer and a COREN Registered Engineer. Born in Abeokuta, she attended Oke Ona Primary School before completing her secondary education at Ebenezer Grammar School.
She graduated with a Second-Class Upper Division degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ilorin in 2000, and subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Facilities Management from the University of Lagos in 2018.
Engr Isiwat currently serves as a Deputy Director at the Office of Works within the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. Throughout her career, she has been an active contributor to the engineering community, presenting various technical papers on complex engineering projects and designs.
She holds memberships in several prestigious professional bodies, including:
• Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE)
• Member, Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE)
• Member, Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria (APWEN)
• Member, International Facilities Management Association (Nigeria Chapter)
• Member, Association of Facilities Management Practitioners Nigeria (AFMPN)
Engr Isiwat has played a pivotal role in the delivery of notable infrastructure projects across Lagos State, most significantly:
• The Revenue House, Alausa
• Various Maternal and Child Care Centres (MCCs)
In addition to being a Fellow of the NSE, she is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE), where she currently serves as the Assistant General Secretary. Engr Isiwat Ayinke Lawal is also the National Vice President, UNILORIN Alumni Association.
