Face your studies squarely, Abubakar urges Unilorites

As students of the University of Ilorin began the Rain Semester of the ongoing academic session in earnest, a lecturer at the institution’s Department of Chemistry, DrĀ  Shifa’au Jaji Abubakar, has appealed to them to face their studies squarely in order to record success at the end of the session and ultimately in their various programmes.

Dr Abubakar made this appeal last Monday (March 30, 2025) in a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin in her office.

The don, who recently joined the services of the University, reminded the students of the huge investments of their parents on them. She pointed out that the only way they can justify the fact that they are worthy of the efforts of their parents is by giving their studies total concentration.

While she said that there is nothing wrong in engaging in meaningful interactions and socialisation with their friends and colleagues, Dr Abubakar said that the primary objectives of their matriculation as students of the University should neither be forgotten nor relegated.

Dr Abubakar charged the Unilorites to always be selective in the calibre of friends and companies they keep, saying that the best group they should fraternise with should be thoseĀ  who will always encourage them to pursue the path of rectitude.

The don also warned the students against honouring invitations to events holding outside the campus, warning that most of such invitations and events would derail them from their studies.

Instead of going to such places, particularly those that have nothing to do with intellectual pursuits, Dr Abubakar urged them to take advantage of the different recreational and sporting facilities available on campus at their leisure times.

While saying that students of the University have comparative advantages of many facilities some of which are not available in many other institutions, Dr Abubakar said that the University has facilities that students would need for their total development.

Dr Abubakar, who is also an alumnus of the University, assured students of the readiness of both the academic and non-teaching staff of the University to assist them in their pursuit of learning and other activities that have to do with their development.
