Senate elects Adeyemi Deputy Vice Chancellor

The Senate of the University of Ilorin has elected Prof. Olalere Adeyemi of the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services) of the University.
The election of Prof. Adeyemi was part of the highlights of the 309th meeting of the Senate held last Tuesday (March 31, 2026) at the University Auditorium under the Chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.
The new Deputy Vice Chancellor replaces Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, who recently completed his tenure as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services).
Prof. Adeyemi, who is the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Arts, is a Professor of Yoruba Literature and Culture.
He had previously served as Head of the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages from 2005 to 2009. His research interests include literary theories and Yoruba literary criticism, gender studies, culture, and Yoruba language in broadcasting and translation.
Aside being a former Assistant National Secretary of the Yoruba Studies Association of Nigeria (YSAN), Prof. Adeyemi belongs to so many learned and professional associations such as the African Literature Association, Egbe Akomolede Yoruba, and others.
He had published widely in reputable national and international journals.
Prof. Adeyemi is also a published creative writer. His recent novel is ‘Oba Mewa Igba Mewa’.
