Members of the Unilorin Muslim Ladies Circle (UMLC) have been urged to rise and fulfil their responsibilities as key contributors to the development of the Muslim Ummah and the wider society.
The call was made last Wednesday (March 11, 2026) at the annual Ramadan Lecture Series organised by the Islamic Missionaries Association of Nigeria (IMAN) in conjunction with the UMLC. The Lecture, themed “The Muslim Ummah and Her Responsibilities” was held at the IMAN premises along new Yidi road, Irewolede, Ilorin.
Delivering the keynote lecture, the Coordinator of the UMCL, Mini Campus Branch, Mrs Muheebah Noah, underscored the important roles Muslim women play in different spheres of life.
She described women as pillars of the family and society, stressing that their responsibilities cut across various roles such as mothers, wives, daughters-in-law, teachers and community builders.
According to her, every Muslim woman must strive to embody the teachings of Islam in her daily life while nurturing the next generation with strong moral and spiritual values.
Mrs Noah further explained that a woman’s conduct within the home and society greatly influences the strength and unity of the Muslim Ummah.
She also encouraged Muslim women to take advantage of the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan to renew their faith, increase acts of worship and strengthen their commitment to Islamic values.
Also speaking at the event, a former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Ilorin, Prof Nike Sidikat Yetunde Ijaiya, emphasised the importance of empathy and compassion in marital relationships.
She noted that marriage thrives when couples show understanding, patience and kindness towards one another, particularly in the face of life’s daily responsibilities and challenges.
Prof. Ijaiya further appealed to men to support their wives by easing their burdens at home, noting that many women juggle multiple responsibilities within the family and society.
According to her, when husbands show consideration and assist their wives, it strengthens family harmony and contributes to a more stable and nurturing home environment.
In her appreciation message, the Ameerah of the UMLC, who is also the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, expressed gratitude to all participants and guests who came from far and near to attend the lecture. She appreciated their support in making the programme a success.
Prof. Abdulbaqi also commended the organisers and volunteers for their dedication and prayed that the lessons from the lecture would inspire Muslim women to remain steadfast in fulfilling their responsibilities within the family, the Muslim community and society at large.
