The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has hosted members of the media and the University community to a Ramadan Iftar as he appreciated journalists for their continued support and partnership with the institution.
Speaking at the event held last Tuesday (March 10, 2026) at the Vice Chancellor’s Lodge, Prof. Egbewole thanked Almighty Allah for the opportunity to gather and break the fast with the critical stakeholders.
Prof. Egbewole specifically appreciated members of the media for their commitment to the development of the University, noting that the relationship between the institution and the press has continued to grow over the years.
“Our relationship continues to blossom and grow every day. You have been our pillar of support, and we do not take it for granted,” the Vice Chancellor said.
He also described the presence of journalists at the gathering as significant, noting that their attendance reflected the cordial relationship between the media and the University.

The Vice Chancellor also acknowledged the presence of Principal Officers, former Principal Officers, Council members, Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors, University of Ilorin students, the President of the Students’ Union and members of his Executive Committee, leaders of staff unions, international students, as well as members and leaders of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) who joined the gathering.
In his sermon at the event, the Chief Imam of the University, Prof. Nasir AbdusSalam, who was represented by the Deputy Chief Imam, Dr Musa Abdullahi, urged Muslims to reflect on their past and present actions in order to maximise the spiritual opportunities in the remaining days of Ramadan.
“We should remember our past and reflect on our present so that we can do good within the remaining days of Ramadan,” he said.
According to him, acts such as seclusion in the mosque (I’tikaf), recitation of the Qur’an, and charity are among the good deeds Muslims can engage in to earn rewards from Allah during the last days of the fasting period.
While appreciating the Vice Chancellor for hosting the gathering, the Imam also prayed for Allah’s continued guidance and blessings upon the University leadership and the entire community.
