Omo Ibile Igbomina inaugurates new exco for UNILORIN Chapter

The newly elected Executive Council of the University of Ilorin Chapter of Omo Ibile Igbomina has been inaugurated with a charge for renewed commitment to unity, cultural preservation and collective development among the Igbomina people.

The inauguration took place last Wednesday (March 4, 2026) at the Association’s Secretariat along Ganmo-Ajase Ipo Road, where a cross section of members, stakeholders and invited guests gathered to witness the formal installation of the new leadership.

Members of the new executive committee of the Association are Prof. Lanre Tajudeen Ajibade, Chairman; Dr Tayo Simeon Arinde, Vice Chairman; Mr Murtala Olayinka Oyinloye, Secretary; Mr Akeem Bakare, Assistant Secretary; Mr Segun Alabi, Public Relations Officer; Mrs Beatrice Olufunmilayo Ishola, Women Coordinator; Mrs Olufunke Florence Gbadeyan, Treasurer; Mr Samuel Olatunde Ayanda, Financial Secretary; Mr Kamal Akanbi, Auditor I; Mr Akeem Woleola Adeolu, Auditor II; and Prof. Bashir Adeniyi Omipidan, Legal Adviser.

Others are Prof. Julius Olaniyi Aiyedun, Prof. Afusat Titilayo Alabi, Prof. Amos Adedayo Adewara, Mr Musbau Olalekan Jimoh, Mr Olusegun Olanrewaju Adewuyi, Mr Stephen Kolawole Adefila and Mr Mustafa Abubakar, who are ex-officio members.

In his inaugural remarks, the new Chairman, Prof. Ajibade, expressed profound gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in him and his team.

He pledged to lead an inclusive administration, in collaboration with the national body, that will promote unity among Igbomina indigenes, strengthen mentorship between elders and youths, and support academic excellence and moral integrity within the University community.

Prof. Ajibade emphasised that the UNILORIN Chapter of the Association would serve as a platform for networking, cultural reawakening and community driven initiatives aimed at empowering members socially and intellectually.

According to him, the Executives committee would align its programmes with the broader aspirations of Egbe Omo Ibile Igbomina, which include fostering solidarity, advancing education, encouraging responsible leadership and contributing meaningfully to societal development.

In his remarks, the National President of the Association, Comrade Bisi Fakayode, congratulated the new Executive Committee and urged them to lead members of the Association with integrity, transparency and a deep sense of responsibility.

Comrade Fakayode described the establishment and consolidation of the UNILORIN Chapter as a strategic milestone that will ensure that the values, heritage and collective vision of the Igbomina people are sustained among the younger generation across Igbomina land.

Appreciating members for their dedication and service to the Association, the National President acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the immediate past executives, noting that their efforts laid a solid foundation for continuity, growth and greater participation of Igbomina sons and daughters in intellectual and community engagements.

He further encouraged members to remain committed to the ideals of unity, mutual support and community advancement, stressing that the Association belongs to all Igbomina sons and daughters and thrives on collective participation.

Stakeholders present at the event described the inauguration as a significant step towards strengthening the presence of the Association within the academic community.
