Obaedo, ex-Unilorin Council member, dies at 74

A former member of the Governing Council of the University of Ilorin, Prince Augustine Bonaventure Obaedo (CP Rtd), is dead. He was 74.

According to a family announcement, Prince Obaedo, who served on the University’s 13th Governing Council between 2022 and 2023, died recently.

A retired Commissioner of Police, the late Obaedo was described by relatives as a loving husband, a devoted father, and a passionate  community leader.

Funeral Mass will hold at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kuchikau II, Karu, Nasarawa State, on Wednesday, February 26, 2026, while his body would be moved to his hometown, Uromi, Edo State.

The traditional rite is scheduled for February 28, 2026, at Obaedo’s Quarters, Egbele, Uromi, to be followed by a Thanksgiving Mass on March 1, 2026 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cathedral, Uromi.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has expressed condolences over the loss.

In a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice-Chancellor described the late Obaedo as a committed public servant whose contributions to the University’s Governing Council would be remembered.

He noted that Prince Obaedo brought dignity, experience, and a strong sense of duty to the Council’s work, adding that, his wise counsel and calm disposition would be sorely missed by the University community.

While condoling the family of the deceased, Prof. Egbewole prayed that Almighty God grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort the family, friends, and associates he left behind.
