UNILORIN FM urges schools to establish press clubs

The General Manager of UNILORIN 89.3 FM radio station, Mr Idris Alooma, has advised heads of public schools and proprietors of privately owned primary and secondary schools in the country to establish press clubs in their institutions. This, he said, will help them to discover and nurture the talents of young students in broadcasting and related fields.

Mr Alooma gave this advice while receiving pupils of Noble Enterprise and Technology School, Ilorin, who visited the radio station on an excursion recently.

He recounted his personal experience of starting his broadcasting career as a primary two pupil, emphasising the importance of early exposure to broadcasting and artistic activities.

He believed that establishing press clubs in schools will enable students to discover their talents and develop them earlier.

Mr Alooma conducted the pupils round the station as he also exposed them to the world of broadcasting.

Some of the pupils, including Abdulkareem Kabirat, Mubarak Soliu, Abdultawab Olaniyi, and Mogaji Fatimah, asked insightful questions and expressed their interests in pursuing careers in broadcasting and mass communication.

On their part, Miss Abdulateef Rukayat and Mr A. Soliu, who accompanied the pupils, appreciated the radio station management for the warm reception, stating that the excursion was aimed at giving the pupils a firsthand experience of broadcasting and nurturing their academic interests.
