Egbewole leads UNILORIN delegation to AWAU meeting

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, last Wednesday (February 18, 2026) led a delegation of the University to the 11th Conference and 13th Annual General Meeting of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), which took place in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Other members of the UNILORIN delegation include the Director, Centre for International Education (CIE), Prof. Lateef Onireti Ibraheem; the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Alex Morenikeji Akanmu, and Dr Mubarak Akintola of the Office of the Vice Chancellor; as well as the wife of the Vice Chancellor, Mrs Muibat Adeola Egbewole.

Prof. Egbewole, who is the Secretary-General of AWAU, used the privilege of attendance of the event to interact with his colleagues from other universities across the West African subregion.

Since his assumption of office in October, 2022, the renowned legal luminary has been projecting the University to the international community at regional, continental and global levels.

The effort has been yielding more visibility for the University and its staff members and students who are gaining more momentum and recognitions to their personal advantage and that of the University as well as the Nigerian nation.

Speaking on the visit, the Director of CIE, Prof. Onireti commended the Vice Chancellor for his aggressive internationalisation drive.

Prof. Onireti, who teaches at the Department of Arabic and Transnational Studies, said that the way the Vice Chancellor is pursuing the internationalisation drive would certainly attract more advantage to the University by making its human and material products more visible.

The Director, who spoke to UNILORIN Bulletin on phone, expressed the hope that the University would take advantage of more of such international engagements for the benefit of all.

A former Vice Chancellor of the University and current Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON; the Vice Chancellors of the Fountain University,Osogbo; Kwara State University,Malete and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Olayinka Ramota Karim, Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh and Prof. Temidayo Oladiji, respectively, who are eitherĀ  distinguished alumni or staff members of the University, were among the stakeholders who attended the meeting.
