POGSASS organises orientation for newly admitted postgraduate students

The Postgraduate Students’ Association (POGSASS), University of Ilorin, has organised an orientation programme for newly admitted postgraduate students of the University. The programme was held last Wednesday (February 4, 2026), at the University Auditorium Basement.

Speaking at the event, the Dean of the Postgraduate College, Prof. Friday Onyekwere Nwosu, explained that the orientation session was designed to equip new students with the necessary guidance to excel academically while maintaining exemplary conduct.

According to him, the programme was aimed at formally welcoming fresh postgraduate students into the University community and familiarising them with the academic environment, administrative structure, expectations, and opportunities available within the University’s postgraduate system.

Earlier in his remarks, the President of POGSASS, Mr Hakeem Kuranga, congratulated the new students on their admission and warmly welcomed them into the Association.

Mr Kuranga urged the students to remain disciplined, stay academically focused, and actively participate in recognised student activities.

He also encouraged them to make effective use of the University’s academic resources and available support services.

The orientation featured engaging and informative sessions on key aspects of postgraduate studies, including academic regulations, research ethics, student welfare, leadership development, and constructive engagement with University authorities.

In his remarks, the Public Relations Officer of the Association, Mr Kehinde Ogundoro, reaffirmed the commitment to promoting academic excellence of POGSASS, student welfare, and effective representation of postgraduate students within the University of Ilorin.

He assured the new students of the continuous support of the Association throughout their academic journey.

The programme strengthened communication and mutual understanding between the Association and the postgraduate student community.

The event attracted a large turnout of postgraduate students from various Faculties, underscoring the importance of the orientation in facilitating the academic and social integration of new students.
