UNILORIN named Awolola Ag. Director, Laboratory Services

A Senior Chief Techonologist at the Department of Anatomy, University of Ilorin, Mr Paul Olúwafemi Awolola, has been appointed the Ag. Director, Laboratory Services, University of Ilorin.
The appointment, which took effect from January 1, 2026, was announced through a letter dated January 26, 2026 and signed by the Registrar of the University, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla.
The letter, which was sighted by UNILORIN Bulletin, reads in part, ” I write to convey the Vice Chancellor’s approval of your appointment as the Acting Director, Laboratory Services, for one (1) year with retroactive effect from 1st January, 2026 to 31st December, 2026.”
In a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin, Mr Awolola, who is a seasoned academic technologist with over two decades of cognate experience, expressed appreciation to the management of the University, for the confidence reposed in him.
While outlining his vision and mission in his new role as the Ag. Director, Mr Awolola, who is also the Chairman of the University Chapter of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), disclosed that he envisioned a University Laboratory Services Unit that would be a world-class hub for innovative laboratory practices, research excellence and academic support, and thus drive the university to greater global recognition.
Similarly, Mr Awolola said that he looked forward to his Unit providing top-notch laboratory services and support to enhance research, teaching, and learning experiences.
He also intended to upgrade laboratory infrastructure and equipment to meet current international standards, develop and implement robust quality assurance and quality control systems, enhance staff training and development programmes, foster industry-academia partnerships for research and innovation and also improve laboratory safety and environmental sustainability practices.
