UNILORIN FASA holds two-day sensitisation programme

The Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA), University of Ilorin Chapter, has organised a two-day sensitisation programme aimed at enlightening students of the faculty on the rules, regulations, and ethical standards guiding their studentship.

The programme was held last Wednesday (January 21,2026),and Thursday(January 22,2026) held at the Arts Lecture Theatre (ALT).

Speaking at the event, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Ibrahim Abdulganiyu Jawondo, urged students to familiarise themselves with the University’s rules and regulations, stressing that freedom cannot exist without laws to guide it.

The Dean, who was represented by one of his predecessors, Prof. Abdullahi S. Abubakar, noted that adherence to rules and regulations promote harmony, while their absence could lead to chaos and disorder.

He explained that rules and regulations apply not only to students but also to lecturers, adding that ignorance is not an excuse.

“Rules and regulations provide an opportunity to learn what to do, what not to do, and how to do what ought to be done,” he said.

Prof. Jawondo commended the organisers of the programme and charged students to be good ambassadors of the Faculty and the University wherever they find themselves.

Also speaking, the Head of the Department of Performing and Film Arts, Dr Saadiyat Olapeju Shuaib, cautioned students against engaging in violent acts and urged them to be disciplined and maintain healthy social interactions.

She warned that involvement in fights and examination malpractice could attract severe sanctions, including expulsion.

In his address, the Faculty Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee, Prof. A. S. AbdusSalam, explained that quality assurance covers all aspects of the University system to ensure smooth and effective operations.

He noted that part of the responsibilities of the Committee is to ensure that lectures are delivered in a qualitative manner.

Similarly, a Lecturer at the Department of Performing and Film Arts, Dr T. S. Arinde, advised students to maintain a clean environment, describing cleanliness as “next to godliness.”

He discouraged littering and urged students to work hard and engage in activities that would leave a lasting positive impact.

In her remarks, the Faculty Officer, Mrs Elizabeth Nnaji, reminded students, particularly freshers, of the need to promptly register their course forms.

Highlights of the event included a mental health session, aimed at promoting emotional well-being among undergraduates.
