The Head of Human Resources at the National Museum, Ilorin, Dr Adewusi Adeola Abideen, has reaffirmed the partnership between the Museum and the UNILORIN 89.3FM.
Speaking on a UNILORIN FM programme, “Oro Tonlo,” anchored by the Station Manager, Mr Idris Alooma, last Tuesday (January 13, 2026), Dr Abideen emphasised the importance of preserving African history and cultural heritage.
Dr Abideen noted that Africa has a rich history that must not be forgotten, citing the saying, “whoever forgets history is bound to be clueless.” He explained that antiquities, artifacts, and artworks are essential in tracing people’s cultures and origins. “Language is as old as human existence itself,” he added.
Dr Abideen classified museums into different categories, including archeological museum, art museum, history museum, natural history museum, science and technology museum, and ethnology museum. He called on stakeholders to prioritise the preservation of Nigeria’s cultural heritage, noting that it’s “very sacrosanct”.
He encouraged students from Departments like Languages, History, and International Studies, and Fine Arts to visit the National Museum for practical experiences.
Speaking on other related issues, Dr Abideen highlighted the significance of the World Museum Day, which is celebrated on May 18th every year. He urged Nigerians to mark the occasion as expected.
