Egbewole to chair inter-varsities’ Quranic contest

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, will on Monday (January 26, 2026) preside-over the grand finale of the 4th Inter-Universities Quranic Recitation Contest organised by Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

This was disclosed by the Director, Centre for Quranic Heritage, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Dr Nafiu Arikewuyo, in a telephone chat with UNILORIN Bulletin last Wednesday (January 14, 2026).

Dr Arikewuyo, who is also an alumnus of the University of Ilorin, said that the event would be held at Al-Hikmah University Auditorium, beginning at 10:00am.

The Director added that the ceremony would also feature the conferment of the Distinguished Servant of the Quran on the proprietor of the Chaste Intellect International School, Mr Afees Jimoh; and the proprietor of Ar-Raheem International School, Mandi, Ilorin, Mr Ibrahim Atanda, who is also a distinguished alumnus of the University of Ilorin.

Dr Arikewuyo further disclosed that 30 universities from all over Nigeria would participate in the competition put together by the University to promote Islamic learning among Nigerian undergraduates and project its leadership as the leading Islamic-faith based University in Nigeria.

He added that each of the universities including the University of Ilorin would be represented by two contestants.

Dr Arikewuyo noted that the invitation extended to the University of Ilorin’s Vice Chancellor was informed by his erudition and reputation as a distinguished Muslim.

He added that his choice was further informed by Prof. Egbewole’s fascinating leadership in the comity of University administrators at national, regional and continental level.

Other dignitaries being expected at the event include the founder of the University, Chief AbdulRaheem Oladimeji, OFR; and the Grand Kadi of the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Abdulateef Kamaldeen while the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Lateef Folorunsho Oladimeji, would be the Chief Host.
