The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin, Prof. Israel Ogunlade, has urged students, particularly those in the Forest Resources Management Department, to sustain their vision, which, he advised, should be showcased through the exhibition of forest products in the University and beyond.
Prof. Ogunlade gave the charge at the Forest Resources Management Expo 6.0, held at the faculty premises last Wednesday (January 7, 2026).
The Dean, who was represented by the Head of the Department of Animal Production, Prof. E. O. Sola-Ojo, stressed the importance of sustaining the vision, making it a model for the industry, supporting the Forestry Department, and becoming a cherished national vision.
Prof. Ogunlade stated that having a vision is not enough; it requires execution. He cited the example of people who dream about their visions but never act on them, while others work towards making them a reality. He encouraged students to be like those who keep trying, saying, “For people like him, we have a vision and keep on trying it; if it comes true, we keep at it, and if not, we keep trying it.”
He urged students to read the story book of “The Forest of a Thousand Demons,” highlighting its relevance in showcasing the importance of forest resources and their benefits. He noted that entering a forest may be daunting, but creating a path with confidence and courage can lead to benefits and generational blessings.
Also speaking at the event, Prof. Amusa Tajudeen Okakunle noted that the idea behind this annual practical training is highly commendable. He called on the University management to create an enabling environment and provide needed facilities for students to showcase their talents through forest resources management, saying it would serve as a source of internal revenue for the University.
He advised students to think outside the box and view the programme as an opportunity to become independent after graduation beyond just a mark assessment.
The Convener of the programme, Dr Nusirat Sadiku, urged the University management to adopt the initiative as a University event and recommended that the Department of Forest Resources Management makes it mandatory for all Forestry students to showcase their work annually, not just final year students.
Dr Sadiku said this would help students display their creativity, create jobs, and become self-reliant.
During the practical training session, students displayed products made from forest resources, including Pure Honey, Mango Wood Plywood, serving bowl with lips and a wooden ladle, Traditional Mortar, Natural Coconut Oil, Wooden Fruit Tray, Bed Side Table, and bags, among others.
