A Chief Nursing Officer at the University of Ilorin Health Services Unit, Mrs Aishat Funmilayo AbdulRahman, has charged staff and students of the institution to always be mindful of their health.

Mrs AbdulRahman gave this advice last Thursday (January 8, 2026) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in her office.

The senior health professional said that it is important for everyone to be mindful of every change observed in his or her body system and seek immediate professional attention.

She said that every health challenge should be promptly reported and adequately tackled before it degenerates.

Mrs AbdulRahman, who is a Member of the Nigerian Association of Health Educators (NAHE),  particularly encouraged members of the University community to always check their blood pressure and other variables at periodic intervals as she noted that high blood pressure has become a major harbinger of ill-health.

She also implored staff members of the University to always go on their annual leave and find time to rest on periodical basis whenever they are off duties.

Mrs AbdulRahman, who is currently pursuing her doctorate degree in Health Education at the University, said that stress could also lead to ill-health as she noted that when an individual rests after rigorous activities his body system would be rejuvenated and prepared for other tasks ahead.

“Those who don’t rest would be forced to rest by circumstances that may be beyond their control”, Mrs AbdulRahman warned.

The Chief Nursing Officer thanked the authorities of the University for empowering the University Clinic with highly trained and motivated professionals who are prepared to treat ailments.

Mrs AbdulRahman also thanked the Director of the Unit, Dr Rasheed Adekeye Odunola, for his inspirational leadership and fantastic management style which encourages efficient service delivery among staff members.

She also said that the Main Clinic and its subsidiaries at the Mini-Campus, College of Health Sciences, and the School of Preliminary Studies, Fufu, are also well-staffed and stocked with drugs and other consumables to assist in delivering quality health care services to staff and students of the University.

Mrs AbdulRahman stressed that prevention of ill-health would always be better and cheaper than correction as she also said that a stich in time saves nine.
