The umbrella sociocultural organisation of the people of Ilorin Emirate, the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), has commended the trio of the Director of Corporate Affairs of the University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun; the Station Manager of UNILORIN FM 89.3, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Alooma); and the Deputy Director (Protocol), Office of the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Segun Alabi, for their exceptional mastery of their respective callings and their outstanding contributions to strengthening the relationship between the University of Ilorin and its host community.
The commendation, conveyed in separate letters to the trio, dated December 8, 2025, and signed by the National President of the Union, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, recognised the three officials for their professionalism, dedication and distinctive styles, which the Union said have continued to project the University positively.
The Union lauded Mr Akogun for the decorum, commitment and elegance with which he has been discharging his responsibilities as Director of Corporate Affairs and as the official liaison between the University and members of the public.
According to the IEDPU, it has remained consistently impressed by Mr Akogun’s fascinating service delivery since his assumption of office over a decade ago.
The Union specifically highlighted the improving contents and quality of the weekly UNILORIN Bulletin and the robust programming of UNILORIN FM 89.3, both under Mr Akogun’s supervision, noting that the platforms regularly beam their searchlights on issues concerning the University and its host community. The Union also observed that this deliberate engagement has contributed significantly to sustaining a harmonious “gown-and-town” relationship over the years.
Similarly, the IEDPU commended the Station Manager of UNILORIN FM 89.3, Mr Alooma, describing his leadership of the station as marked by uncommon devotion and dedication. The Union stated that through what it termed his “Midas touch,” Mr. Ibrahim has transformed the station into a must-listen-to radio outlet, effectively fulfilling its mandate to inform, educate and entertain.
According to the Union, the quality of programming and teamwork under Mr Ibrahim’s leadership has positioned UNILORIN FM as an outstanding bridge-builder between the University and the Ilorin Emirate community, thereby encouraging the steady growth of mutual understanding and cooperation.
The IEDPU also showered encomiums on the Deputy Director (Protocol), Mr Segun Alabi, for his brilliant and exciting style in the discharge of his duties, particularly his outstanding performance as Master of Ceremonies at University events. The Union praised Alabi’s professionalism, confidence and captivating delivery, noting that his conduct at official functions has consistently enhanced the public image of the University.
The Union further described Mr Alabi as a master image-maker and an effective bridge-builder between the University and the Ilorin Emirate, adding that his deep understanding of institutional protocol and commitment to excellence have continued to endear him to the University stakeholders.
While expressing confidence that the recognitions would further motivate the three officials to sustain their high standards, the IEDPU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the greatness of the University of Ilorin and strengthen cordial relations between the institution and its host community. The Union also extended its warm regards to the University Management for fostering an environment that encourages professionalism, excellence and community engagement.
