UNILORIN @ 50: We had a great outing-Mokuolu

The Chairman of the University of Ilorin 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, Prof. Olugbenga Ayodeji Mokuolu, has said that the Committee and the University as well as its stakeholders had a very colourful and memorable outing throughout the anniversary.
Prof. Mokuolu stated this last Tuesday (December 9,2025) at the post-mortem meeting of the Committee at the Board Room of the University’s Academic Planning Unit.
The Chairman, who gave God all the glory for the success of each of the events, said that he was delighted that the University was turned into a beehive of activities from the first to the last of the events.
Prof. Mokuolu, who also said that the Committee delivered its responsibilities at minimum and reasonable cost, recalled that the anniversary was made up of 18 different events, 15 of which were wholly planned and executed by the Committee. He said that only the commissioning of the Space Research Centre, the JAMB International Hostel and the National Secretariat of the University’s Alumni Association were not shouldered by the Committee.
The Chairman commended members of the Committee and the generality of staff of the University for their cooperation before, during and after the colourful anniversary programme.
The Chairman, who appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole,SAN and members of his management team for their guidance and support, said that each of the events was delivered with speed as they also witnessed no failure whatsoever.
The Chairman commended each of the Sub-Committees for working tirelessly to ensure that each of the events was well organised and delivered.
Prof. Mokuolu said that though the University organised the 25th and 40th anniversaries of its establishment in 2000 and 2015, respectively, he said that the Golden Jubilee was the first anniversary of the establishment of the University that was organised separately.
He recalled that the first two anniversaries were organised as part of the convocation ceremonies of their respective years as he said that what his committee did was another significant milestone in the annals of the University.
While urging various subcommittees and members to forward a summary of their reports to the Committee’s Secretariat, Prof. Mokuolu assured all that a comprehensive report would be packaged and submitted to the University Administration for ease of reference. He also said that copies of each of the anniversary materials and anniversary photo album would also be sent to the University Archieves for preservation.
Also speaking, the Alternate Chairman of the Committee, Prof. AbdulRasheed Abiodun Adeoye, congratulated the Chairman and Members of the Committee for a job well done.
Prof. Adeoye, who is also the Director of Academic Planning, said that every member of the Committee participated actively and deserves to be commended for delivering fantastically.
Commenting, a Member of the University Governing Council who also served on the Committee, Prof. Maryam AbdulRaheem-Mustapha,said that her colleagues on the Council were positively overwhelmed with the turnout of the events.
Prof. AbdulRaheem-Mustapha said that her interactions with members of the Council revealed that they were impressed with the performance of the Committee as demonstrated in quality service delivery at every segment of the six-day programme.
Prof. U. S. Ugbomoiko of the Department of Zoology commended his colleagues on the Committee for playing their roles effectively.
He explained that his participation as a Member of the Committee has given him more exposure to event planning as he enjoined academic staff of the University to always take their membership of various Committees seriously in order to sharpen their administrative competencies.
