A former Director, Central Research Laboratories, University of Ilorin, Prof. Musa Toyin Yakubu, has been elected Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences(AAS).
The election of Prof. Yakubu, who is also a distinguished alumnus of the University of Ilorin, was announced in Pretoria, South Africa on Monday, November 24, 2025 at the Science Forum for South Africa(SFSA).
The announcement followed a letter dated November 21, 2025 addressed to the multiple award-winning scientist and outstanding administrator by the Secretary-General of the AAS, Dr Friday E. Okonofua.
The letter explained that with the development, Prof. Yakubu, who is also a former Dean, Student Affairs, University of Ilorin, is entitled to add “FASS” to his name.
Prof. Yakubu, had earlier in 2021, received the Fellowship of the prestigeous Nigerian Academy of Science.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole,SAN, has welcomed the conferemment of the Fellowship of African Academy of Science on Prof. Yakubu.
In a statement signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor commended Prof. Yakubu, who teaches at the Department of Biochemistry, for always bringjng honour to the University.
Prof. Egbewole urged other members of the University community to emulate the hard work and enterprising nature of Prof. Yakubu for the University to remain among the leading ivory towers at national, continental and global levels.
