Abubakar inducted into IPI Nigeria

An Assistant Director (Information) at the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Mustafa Muhammad Abubakar, has been inducted as a member of the International Press Institute Nigeria (IPI Nigeria), joining a prestigious community of editors, media executives, and journalism advocates committed to upholding press freedom and ethical journalism.

The induction of Mr Abubakar took place last Tuesday (December 2, 2025), during the 2025 IPI Nigeria Annual Conference and General Meeting (AGM) at the NICON-NOGA Luxury Hotel, Abuja, and was attended by top media and government stakeholders.

Mr Abubakar was recognised alongside other seasoned professionals for demonstrating a steadfast commitment to advancing high standards in journalism and contributing to a strong, independent media landscape in Nigeria.

Speaking on the occasion, IPI Nigeria Secretary, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim Shekarau, commended the inductees, stating that their membership represents an important step in promoting ethical reporting, safeguarding journalists’ rights, and strengthening democratic accountability across the country.

In his remarks, Mr Abubakar expressed gratitude for the honour, noting that the induction aligns with his longstanding dedication to media excellence and professional development.

“It is indeed a privilege to join IPI Nigeria and contribute to the collective mission of defending press freedom and ethical journalism,” he said.

He also thanked the authorities of the University for their support, promising to continue to represent the institution with distinction at all professional fora.  In his reaction,, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, congratulated Mr Abubakar, describing his induction as a well-merited recognition of his outstanding contributions to journalism and media development initiatives in Nigeria.

In a statement by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole encouraged other staff members, students, and alumni to take inspiration from Mr Abubakar’s dedication, urging them to strive for professional excellence while promoting the University’s reputation in their respective fields.

In a letter of congratulation by the Chairman of the UNILORIN Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Tijani Adekola Adewoyin, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN Bulletin last Wednesday (December 3, 2025), Mr Abubakar’s long-standing service to journalism and mentorship of young journalists was highlighted.

The statement described him as a former Vice Chairman of the NUJ Kwara State Council and Assistant Director, who has set a commendable example for his peers.

Mr Adewoyin noted, “We are thrilled to see Mr Abubakar’s dedication recognised. His leadership and commitment to the profession make this honour well-deserved.”

He added that the induction is not merely ceremonial but a fitting recognition of Mr Abubakar’s contributions to journalism.

The Chairman reaffirmed the Chapel’s commitment to supporting members who exemplify excellence and to collaborating with IPI Nigeria to promote press freedom, ethical reporting, and the welfare of journalists nationwide.
