Alooma tasks UCJ on ethics

The General Manager of UNILORIN 89.3 FM Radio Station, Mr Ibrahim Akintola Idris (Alooma), has tasked members of the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ilorin, to uphold the principles of truth, ethics, and professionalism in their reporting, as well as contribute to sustaining peace on campus.

In a lecture delivered at the UCJ induction ceremony held penultimate Saturday (November 15, 2025) at the Falulty Management Science Faculty Lecture Theatre, Mr Alooma emphasised the importance of truthful reporting, media ethics, and youth engagement in the information space.

He urged the young journalists to be champions of truth, fairness, and balance in their reporting, and to use their platforms to promote peace and unity on campus.

The seasoned broadcaster noted that the University of Ilorin has a rich history of excellence and peaceful coexistence, and that the UCJ members have a role to play in sustaining this peace.

He encouraged them to be responsible, professional in their reporting, and to avoid sensationalism, plagiarism, and bias.

Mr Alooma also highlighted the ample opportunities available to UCJ members and other students at Unilorin FM Radio Station, where they can learn and practice various aspects of radio broadcasting, including programme presentation, newscasting, production, marketing, and news reporting, among others.

He said that after undergoing training, participants will be certified at the end of their academic career in the University.
