The Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Ilorin, Prof. O. A. Adekeye, has commended the leadership style of his immediate past predecessor, Prof. Abdullahi Alafara Baba.

Prof. Adekeye gave this commendation last Monday (December 1, 2025) while speaking at a reception organised by the Faculty in honour of Prof. Alafara and a few others at the Faculty Board Room.

Others who were honoured along with Prof. Alafara are the immediate past Sub-Dean, Dr Omolayo A. Omorinoye; the Faculty Accountant, Mr. Femi A. Ogunsanya; the Caretaker, Mr. Kola S. Adekeye; the Senior Executive Officer, Mr. Bamidele Akinsola, and Alhaja Ajibike S. Onaolapo, the Chief Secretarial Assistant, as well as Mr. Abdul Sallam Abdulrasaq, the Dean’s Driver.

Prof. Adekeye described the former Dean as a hardworking scholar and administrator who dedicated his time and resources to the growth of the Faculty.

The Dean recalled the several achievements of the Faculty under the leadership of Prof. Alafara, saying that the former Dean was able to lead the Faculty to the status of being the best in the University.

Prof. Adekeye also commended other honourees for their individual and collective contributions to the success of the Faculty.

Prof. Adekeye assured the audience that he would lead other Faculty Members and students towards building on the fascinating legacy left behind by Prof. Alafara to ensure that the Faculty remains on top.

Responding, Prof. Alafara thanked the management and staff of the Faculty for honouring him and others.

He said that the humble achievements recorded while he was in charge were made possible through the support of every staff member and student of the Faculty.

He urged Faculty members and students of the Faculty to support Prof. Adekeye for the Faculty to remain a pride of all.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of souvenirs to Prof. Alafara and other honourees.
