As the University of Ilorin celebrates its 50th anniversary, the Chaplain of St. Thomas Aquinas, University of Ilorin, Fr. Celestine Iko-Ojo Emah, has praised the institution’s dedication to academic excellence, community, faith development, and its unique approach to education.

In an interview on UNILORIN 89.3 FM  “Countdown to Unilorin @50”, anchored by the Station Manager, Mr Idris Alooma, and the Head of Programmes, Mr Temitope Olawuyi, last Wednesday (November 19, 2025), Fr. Emah highlighted the University’s commitment to fostering an environment where faith and reason converge in perfect harmony, promoting spiritual, intellectual, and moral growth.

He noted that the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the University of Ilorin is a significant milestone, representing fifty years of academic excellence, community service, and holistic development of countless students.

Fr. Emah affirmed that the University’s emphasis on character development and pursuit of truth has created a fertile ground for spiritual growth, nurturing generations of leaders who have excelled in various fields.

The faith leader noted that Unilorin’s diverse student population offers opportunities for ecumenical engagement and interfaith dialogue, enriching the community and promoting mutual understanding. He further explained that the Chaplaincy has played a vital role in nurturing the spiritual life of students, staff, and the wider community through regular prayers, meetings, spiritual retreats, and social ministry activities.

He stated that the Church at the University of Ilorin provides a space for worship, reflection, and community building, supporting students and staff in their spiritual journeys.

Fr. Emah expressed gratitude to the alumni of the University, saying, “they are a reflection of Unilorin’s success. He urged them to continue to live out the values instilled in them by making a positive impact on all their endeavors.”
