The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole,SAN, was penultimate Saturday (November 15, 2025) honoured with an award by The Criterion at an event in Lagos. The Criterion is an organisation peopled by distinguished female Muslim professionals from all over Nigeria.
The event was the highlight of the organisation’s 13th National/4th International Conference, which took place between November 12 and 16, 2025.
Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Vice President (West Africa) of the Association of African Universities(AAU), was honoured for his exemplary leadership qualities and contributions to human development.
The Vice Chancellor, according to the organisers, was also singled out for the honour because of the sensitivity of his Administration to gender issues.
Receiving the award, the Vice Chancellor, who was represented by his wife, Mrs Muibat Egbewole, thanked the Muslim organisation for the honour.
Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), assured that he would continue to discharge his responsibilities to the University, his profession and the society at large with fairness and candour.
The event was attended by several dignitaries including the President of the Association, Mrs Zainab Ghali; the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi; and a former Deputy Rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Dr Habeebat Nike Adam, among others.
