The Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Ilorin, has presented an Award of Excellence to the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, in appreciation of his assistance towards the growth and advancement of the Faculty.

The honour was conferred on the Vice Chancellor last Wednesday (November 12, 2025) shortly after the successful conclusion of the 3rd International Conference of Environmental Sciences (ICES 2025).

The conference, which was jointly organised by the Faculty and the Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), Estonia, was held at the University Auditorium and attracted several participants from within and outside Nigeria.

Presenting the award, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ganiyu Amuda-Yusuf, lauded Prof. Egbewole for his continuous encouragement, institutional support, and visionary leadership, which have enabled the Faculty to thrive academically and administratively.

He noted that the Vice Chancellor’s interest in research collaboration and international partnerships has placed the Faculty on the global academic map as evidenced by the successful hosting of the ICES 2025 Conference in partnership with TalTech, Estonia.

Prof. Amuda-Yusuf was joined in presenting the award by the conference’s keynote speaker, Prof. Emlyn Witt of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Tallinn University of Technology, and the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Dr. Theophilus Olowa.

In his remarks after receiving the award, Prof. Egbewole appreciated the Faculty for the honour as he described it as a motivation to continue promoting excellence across all academic units of the University.

Prof. Egbewole commended the Faculty’s leadership for its dedication to academic innovation and international collaboration, which, he said, align perfectly with the University’s strategic vision of becoming a globally competitive institution.

The Vice Chancellor particularly lauded Prof. Amuda-Yusuf and his team for successfully hosting the international conference, which, he said, further demonstrates UNILORIN’s commitment to advancing research and knowledge exchange in environmental studies.

Prof. Egbewole also used the occasion to urge Prof. Witt to ensure the full implementation of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Ilorin and the Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), Estonia, noting that the agreement should yield tangible benefits for both institutions, especially in joint research, academic exchange, and capacity development.
