The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has said that the University is prepared to host a fantastic Golden Jubilee.

Prof. Egbewole stated this last Tuesday (November 11, 2025) while speaking at a meeting the University management team held with the Anniversary Planning Committee at the Vice Chancellor’s Committee Room.

The Vice Chancellor, who commended the Chairman and members of the Committee for working tirelessly towards delivering a memorable anniversary, urged the Committee to ensure that no stone is left unturned for the anniversary to be truly groundbreaking.

He confirmed that invitations had been sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, as well as the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, and otherĀ  Governors.

Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), also said that he has held consultations with some other high profile personalities being expected, saying that the event would be a talk of the town.

Speaking on alumni participation, the Vice Chancellor expressed delight with what the University Alumni Association has done so far. He explained that he was extremely impressed with what the Association put up at an event recently held in Lagos. He explained that the Lagos event was a harbinger of what would happen at the main event.

He enjoined alumni of the University to ensure maximum participation, pointing out that the Golden Jubilee is a significant episode that no alumnus of the University should miss.

Prof. Egbewole also expressed profound optimism with the participation of students. He said that the programme is for the current students as it is for the alumni and staff of the University.

He also charged the Planning Committee to ensure that only extremely outstanding persons are recommended for award during the anniversary as he advised that nominees for the award should not only be credible individuals but should also be true and worthy representations of their professions and whose selection must cut across all delineations.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Prof. Olugbenga Ayodeji Mokuolu, thanked the Vice Chancellor for his deep interest in the activities and success of the Committee.

Prof. Mokuolu recalled the activities of the Committee so far as he expressed the hope that the anniversary will turn out to be more colourful than expected.

He also took the Vice Chancellor and other Principal Officers of the University through the activities lined up for the anniversary as he expressed optimism that stakeholders would work with the Committee to ensure very successful outings.

The Chairman, who thanked his colleagues on the Committee for their commitment and cooperation so far, assured the Vice Chancellor that his Committee would ensure that everything worth doing is done to ensure a fantastic celebration.

In attendance at the meeting were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Mukhtar Adeiza Etudaiye; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal; and the Managing Director of the UNILORIN Holdings, Prof. Bashiru Ademola Raji; and the Director of COMSIT, Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh.
