1. Physical Planning Unit (PPU) Overview

  • Established: 1978 under the Vice Chancellor’s Office.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Planning, coordinating, and supervising all physical developments in line with the University Master Plan.
    • Ensuring compliance with Federal Government Procurement Guidelines.
    • Preparing technical documents, progress reports, and certifications for contractors and consultants.
  • Head: QS Abdulrahaman Toyin Jimoh (Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors).
  • Staffing: Architects, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Builders, and administrative personnel.

2. Major Functions of the Unit

  • Initiating and processing project approvals from inception to completion.
  • Preparing architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
  • Coordinating funding proposals for agencies like TETFUND, NUC, and others.
  • Providing regular project reports for accountability and monitoring.

3. TETFUND Projects (1999–2024)

Projects span construction, rehabilitation, procurement of equipment, and program upgrades across multiple faculties and facilities.

  • 1999–2006: Construction of hostels, lecture theatres, faculty buildings, gymnasium, Centre of Excellence, and procurement of equipment and buses.
  • 2007–2014: High-Impact Projects including laboratories, research centres, boreholes, simulation centres, academic complexes, and lecture theatres.
  • 2015–2019: Faculty buildings, engineering workshops, entrepreneurship centres, and zonal intervention projects.
  • 2020–2024: Recent works include Faculty of Basic Clinical Science, Law Library, Moot Court, Social Sciences building, English Drama Studio, and ongoing projects like student hostels, lecture theatres, and classroom blocks.

Project Status:

  • Majority are completed; a few projects awarded in 2023–2024 are ongoing (e.g., student hostels, lecture theatres).

4. Funding & Accountability

  • Projects funded under Annual Merged Interventions, Special Interventions, High Impact Projects, Entrepreneurship Interventions, and Zonal Interventions.
  • Adherence to Public Procurement Act ensures transparency and compliance.
  • Regular reporting to governing bodies (NUC, TETFUND, Needs Assessment Committee).
