The Unilorin Muslim Community (UMC) has appointed the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof. Lukman Adesina Azeez, as the Chairman of a committee to organise its programmes commemorating the University’s Golden Jubilee.

The Chairman of the UMC, Prof. Mudathir Olalere Yusuf, disclosed this in a statement, made available to UNILORIN Bulletin.

Other members of the committee, according to the statement, are the immediate past Sub-Dean, Student Affairs, Dr Mohammed Kabir Garba, Vice Chairman; Mr Abubakar Mustafa Muhammad, Publicity Secretary; and Dr Rafiat Ajibade Oyekunle.

The Committee also include Mr Murtala Oyinloye, Dr Abdulazeez Abiodun Showumi, while Mr Is-haaq Abdussalam, will serve as its Secretary.

The terms of reference of the Committee, according to Prof. Yusuf, include overseeing the design, scheduling, and coordination of anniversary programmes that reflect Islamic values, educational advancement, and institutional development.

The Committee will also liaise with the University administration, students, and external Muslim organisations to ensure broad participation and support.

Additionally, the Committee is tasked with identifying and managing financial, human, and material resources for the effective planning of the event, as well as developing publicity and outreach strategies to promote the anniversary within and beyond the University community.

The highlight of the proposed programme, according to Prof. Yusuf, would be a lecture titled “Celebrating 50 Years of Academic Excellence: The Role of Islamic Values in Shaping the Unilorin Community” as well as the conferment of honours on past leaders and supporters of the institution’s Muslim community, including former Imams, Deputy Imams, Chairmen, Principal Officers of the University, MSSN Amirs, and former Ameerahs of the UNILORIN Muslim Ladies Circle as well as Justice Abdulkadir Orire,  Chief M.K.O. Abiola and Chief AbdulRaheem Oladimeji.

Prof. Yusuf charged members of the Committee to work tirelessly as he called for regular updates to the UMC Executive Committee.
