
Ajao, ex-UNILORIN ASUU Chairman, appointed Provost, KWASU Medical School

The immediate past Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ilorin Branch, Prof. Salihu Moyosore Ajao, has been appointed the pioneer Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Kwara State University, Malete.
The appointment was contained in a letter sent to him by the Registrar of the University, Dr Wasilat Kikelomo Salle, on September 3, 2025.
The appointment was earlier announced by the KWASU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sheikh Luqman Jimoh, during a meeting of the University Senate last Tuesday (September 2, 2025).
The former ASUU Chairman, who is also a Professor of Anatomy and immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Ilorin, has since assumed duties.
In a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin, Prof. Ajao, who is currently on sabbatical leave at KWASU, thanked the authorities of the State University for the opportunity given him to make an impact on the institution.
He recalled that as a Visiting Dean, he had helped in the establishment of the KWASU Medical School and that he would use his new position to take the school to the next level.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has welcomed Prof. Ajao’s appointment as the pioneer Provost of KWASU Medical School.
In a statement issued on his behalf by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said that he was convinced that Prof. Ajao would discharge his duties diligently in a way that every stakeholder would be proud of.
He, therefore, encouraged Prof. Ajao to deploy his characteristic energy, charisma and professionalism to ensure that the KWASU Medical School is given a sound footing for it to complement the effort of the UNILORIN Medical School in the production of worthy, tested and trusted medical professionals.
Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Vice President (West Africa), Association of African Universities (AAU), wished Prof. Ajao a very peaceful and successful tenure.
