The Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), University of Ilorin, Prof. Saudat Sallah Abdulbaqi has  affirmed that journalism is a career many are passionate about as she challenged journalists to do more in order to uphold the integrity of the profession.

Prof. Abdulbaqi made the call penultimate Monday, (August 18, 2025) while receiving a delegation of the University of Ilorin Chapel of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), who went to congratulate her on her election as Dean and subsequent assumption of office.

In her remarks, Prof. Abdulbaqi  noted that the Unilorin NUJ Chapel brings pride to the University Community and emphasised that journalism is a noble profession, which requires passion, responsibility and integrity.

While saying that journalism cannot be the exclusive preserve of graduates of Mass Communication, she pointed out that those interested in the field need to have skilled knowledge, and practise with passion.

Prof. Abdulbaqi encouraged the Chapel  to carry all members along , mentor campus journalists,  upgrade  their skills, familiarise them with ethical practices, expand students membership, hold regular meeting with Chapel members and sustain interaction with young reporters.

Speaking earlier, the Chapel Chairman, Mr Tijani Adekola Adewoyin, congratulated Prof. Abdulbaqi on her election as he invited her to the Chapel’s forthcoming workshop.

He added that the workshop was being organised to equip members with professional knowledge and skills.

Members of the delegation included the Assistant Secretary, Mr Abubakar Abdulquadri, Mr Bashir Dawodu and Mrs Bashirat Omotosho.
