……Jawondo expresses confidence

A Counter terrorism expert, Prof. Abdul-Jelil Gbemisola Animasawun, has assumed duty as the new Director of the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies (CPSS), University of Ilorin.
This development was consequent upon the approval of his appointment by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.
The new Director took-over from Prof. Abdulganiyu Ibrahim Jawondo, who was recently elected the Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the University.
In his remarks during the handing over, which was held last Thursday (August 21, 2025) at the Centre’s Boardroom, the immediate past Director of the Centre, Prof. Jawondo, described his tenure as fulfilling and expressed gratitude to the University management for the opportunity to serve.
He lauded Prof. Animasawun’s scholarship, describing him as “a seasoned researcher and strategic thinker whose leadership will take the Centre to greater heights.”
He further noted that Prof. Animasawun’s policy engagement track record will position CPSS as a key stakeholder in national discourse, while also urging members of staff to sustain their culture of teamwork and dedication under the new leadership.
Prof. Jawondo expressed confidence that Prof. Animasawun’s tenure would further strengthen the Centre’s engagement with policymakers, civil society actors, and critical stakeholders in the global peace and security community.
In his response, the new Director, Prof. Animasawun, thanked the Vice Chancellor and the University management for the confidence reposed in him as he pledged to consolidate on the gains of the tenure of his predecessor while advancing research, training, and policy engagement in peace and conflict studies.
