The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has commended the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), UNILORIN Branch, for conducting a peaceful and rancour-free election that produced its new leadership.
Speaking when he received the re-elected and newly elected leadership of the Union in his office penultimate Friday (August 15, 2025), the Vice Chancellor described the rancour-free election as a credit to both the Union and the Electoral Committee that supervised it.
Prof. Egbewole stated that the smooth conduct of the election was a demonstration of maturity and commitment to unity, adding that it stood as a positive example when compared to the challenges witnessed in other institutions.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria congratulated the newly elected Executive Committee members, particularly the Chairman, Comrade Naheem Olusola Falowo, and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by their colleagues. He charged the leadership to continue to provide purposeful guidance for members and to uphold the values and objectives for which the Union was established.
He assured the Union of management’s continued cooperation, noting that the harmonious relationship between the administration and the campus unions translate to overall progress and stability for the University.
The Vice Chancellor urged SSANU members to remain focused on their primary responsibilities while avoiding acts that could undermine the image of the University. He assured them that the administration would continue to explore ways to ease staff welfare challenges and called for reciprocal commitment from the Union in ensuring that the University continues to excel.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of SSANU, Comrade Naheem Olusola Falowo, explained that it is customary for a newly elected executive to pay a familiarisation visit to the Vice Chancellor, both to express gratitude for past support and to seek further cooperation for the future.
Comrade Falowo, who acknowledged the various interventions of the Vice Chancellor during his first tenure, including the support given when the union hosted its South-West Zonal Executive Council (ZEC) meeting, also highlighted the Prof. Egbewole Administration’s contributions to the improvement of members’ career structure.
The SSANU Chairman pledged the Union’s continued loyalty and cooperation with the University management and expressed optimism that the second term of his leadership would build on the successes already recorded. Other members of the SSANU Executive Committee who joined the Chairman on the courtesy visit were the Vice Chairman, Comrade Musbau Jimoh; the Secretary, Comrade Bankole Atanlogun; the Assistant General Secretary, Comrade Ayodeji Abdulmalik; the Public Relations Officer, Comrade Oluwadamilola Afelumo; the Treasurer, Comrade Ahmed Busari; the Financial Secretary, Comrade Abdulkabir Mustapha; the Women Coordinator, Comrade Mariam Babalola; the Trustee, Comrade Olukayode Bello; and the Ex-Officio, Comrade Kudirat Suleiman.
