A renowned sport journalist, Mr Bayour Issah, has described the University of Ilorin as a bastion of school sports in Nigeria.
Mr Issah made this assertion penultimate Sunday (August 10, 2025) while presenting his weekly programme, “Sport Number One”, on Garin 95.5 FM, Ilorin.
The ace broadcaster, who played host to Miss Joy Obande, a sports enthusiatist and graduating student of the Department of Nursing, University of Ilorin, on the programme, explained that the institution has produced so many outstanding sports men and women who have done the University and the nation proud over the years.
Mr Issah recalled that the University has also won so many laurels in the annual National Universities Games (NUGA) and the West African Universities Games (WAUG), among several others.
He commended the authorities of the University for making huge investments on sports, saying that the University boasts of quality sports facilities, which encouraged embrace of different sports by its staff and students.
Mr Issah, who served on the University’s Sports Committee during the Vice Chancellorship of Prof. Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, advised parents and guardians not to discourage their children and wards from participating in sports. He noted that there is absolutely nothing wrong in children embracing one sport event or the other.
