A distinguished alumnus of the University of Ilorin, Dr Abdulkadir Tunji Nagode, has appealed to alumni of the institution all over the world to cooperate fully with the authorities of the University in making its upcoming 50th anniversary colourful.
Dr Nagode, who made this appeal last Wednesday (August 13, 2025) in a telephone chat with UNILORIN Bulletin, described the University as one of the leading citadels of learning in Nigeria because of its so many positive characteristic qualities, particularly in the realms of quality service delivery, consistent academic calendar and zero tolerance for anti-social behaviour, among others.
Dr Nagode, who is a top official of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company PLC, said that though UNILORIN is a second generation university in the country, the institution has been favourably competing with the older universities.
He explained that the University has done so much for humanity, especially through its alumni, as he encouraged all those who have passed through it to give back to the institution. He said that no alumnus should be indifferent to the University and the forthcoming anniversary celebration.
Dr Nagode, who is the Dan Amana of Ilorin, acknowledged the fact that the University has produced so many alumni, who are doing very well across the world, adding that identifying with the University would attract to them more divine blessings.
He added that he had met several products of the University in the course of his career and that they always stand out in knowledge, integrity and humility.
While describing himself as a proud alumnus of the University, Dr Nagode, who obtained two Master degrees and a doctorate from the University, said that he would continue to be proud of UNILORIN.
He suggested that preparations for the anniversary celebration be scaled up through, what he called, “aggressive advertising campaigns” so that the interests of every stakeholder in the anniversary would be positively stimulated.
Dr Nagode congratulated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the entire University community on the achievements of the institution so far and particularly on the anniversary, saying that the University deserves to be celebrated.
