The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has commended the Alumni Association of the Department of Mass Communication on its remarkable gesture of giving back to their alma mater.
Prof. Egbewole gave this commendation last Wednesday (August 13, 2025) during the commissioning of a 10kV solar power system donated by the Alumni Association to the Department.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, the Vice Chancellor praised the alumni’s selfless act, describing it as worthy of commendation and emulation.
Earlier in his remarks, the Ag. Head of the Department, Dr Patrick O. Udende, highlighted the alumni’s consistent support, which includes furnishing the Department’s Boardroom, providing state-of-the-art facilities, assisting undergraduates with school fees, and presenting annual awards to outstanding graduating students.
The Chairman of the Project Committee, Mr Fatiu Olohungbebe, emphasised the importance of giving back to one’s alma mater, noting that it is a key factor in achieving success.
The commissioning ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology, and Innovation), Prof. Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; and the Dean, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, among others.
