16 Unilorites shine at VICBHE

…varsity produces ACSP’s pioneer Vice President, Research lead

Sixteen staff of the University of Ilorin recently made the institution proud as they received various awards for their exceptional performances at the end of the Virtual Institute for Capacity Building in Higher Education (VICBHE) training.

The training, which ran between April 22 and July 15, 2025, was organised by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in partnership with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), with hundreds of academic staff of institutions of higher learning across the country participating.

            This was contained in a report sent to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, by the Coordinator of the University of Ilorin VICBHE Module Programme, Prof. Mubarak Oloduowo Ameen, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN Bulletin last Wednesday (July 30, 2025).

Apart from the award-winning participants, the nation’s most acclaimed University also produced the pioneer Vice President and Lead Researcher of the newly-founded Association of Cyber Security Practitioners (ACSP). They are, Prof. Adebisi Adeyina of the Department of Animal Production and Prof. Abubakar Kasum of the Department of Accounting, respectively.

Of the 55 participants in the training from the University of Ilorin, 20 bagged Distinction Plus, 31 earned Distinction while two each made Credit and Merit at the two-month programme.

Those who received various awards include the new Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Ibrahim AbdulGaniyu Jawondo; his counterpart at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Joshua Olanrewaju Olaoye; a former Director of the University of Ilorin Consultancy Services, Prof. Omodele Abiodun Abosede Eletta, and Prof. Adebisi Oluwatoba Adeyina of the Crop Production Department, a former Head of the Department of Accounting, Prof. Khadijat Adenola Yahaya as well as Prof.  Abubakar Sadiq Kasum of the same Department.

            Also honoured are Prof. Omolara O. Oluwaniyi of the Department of Industrial Chemistry, Prof. Abdulkareem Suleiman, who teaches at the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Dr David Olugbenga Adetitun of the Department of Microbiology; Mr Ahmed Olukanmi Banjo of the Quality Assurance Unit; Prof. Olubunmi Abidemi Fadipe-Joseph of the Department of Mathematics, and Dr Bashirat Titilope Imam, who teaches at the Department of Science Education.

            Others are Dr Jamiu Oladele Muhammed from the Department of Library and Information Sciences; Dr Mayowa Olurotimi Ogunjimi of the Department of Social Sciences Education; Dr Musa Mohammed Sulaiman of the Department of Science Education, who bagged two awards, as well as Dr Habibat Abubakar Yusuf of the Department of Educational Management.

            In his reaction, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, congratulated all the participants for doing the University proud.

            In a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor also welcomed the emergence of two of the participants from the University as pioneer Executive Council members of ACSP.

Prof. Egbewole said that the performance of members of the UNILORIN team at the training has convincingly confirmed the leadership position of the University among its peers at national and continental levels.

The Vice Chancellor enjoined the participants to ensure that they share the knowledge acquired with their colleagues and students for the University to benefit maximally from their experiences.
