Staff of the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS) have hosted a surprise farewell ceremony in honour of the outgoing Dean, Prof. Lukman Adesina Azeez.
The event, which was held at the Faculty Board Room last Tuesday, (July 22, 2025),was marked by warm tributes and commendations from staff and colleagues who lauded the outgoing Dean’s impactful leadership.
Speaking at the event, the Sub-Dean of the Faculty, Dr Emos Bajeh, described Prof. Azeez as an outstanding leader who fostered peace and unity within the Faculty, as he requested the Dean’s continued support to the Faculty.
Also speaking, the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr Patrick Udende, commended Prof. Azeez for his transparency in resource allocation and fairness, adding that his leadership had earned him the goodwill of many.
Similarly, Prof. Lambe Kayode Mustapha, a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication described the outgoing Dean as a “goal-getter and man of destiny,” as he applauded his administrative acumen and selfless commitment to the growth of the Faculty.
On her part, the Faculty Counsellor, Mrs Oniye Sherifat Tinuke, also acknowledged the significant impact Prof. Azeez had made on both staff and the Faculty’s development.
In her goodwill message, the Faculty Officer, Mrs Titi Bamidele, noted that Prof. Azeez led not only with wisdom but also with warmth, adding that despite his many responsibilities as a Dean, he never wavered from his first love: teaching.
She noted that his classes never suffered, because for him, educating and engaging with students was not secondary but sacred.
Other members of staff, including the Faculty Accountant,Mr Sunday Alade, Mrs Aminat Akogun Jolayemi, and administrative staff such as Mrs Naomi Ayodele and Mrs Bolah Bolatito, echoed similar sentiments, describing Prof. Azeez as a compassionate leader and a source of guidance.
Responding, Prof. Azeez expressed his appreciation for the honour, thanking the entire Faculty for their support.
He described the event as a deeply memorable moment in his career as he never saw it coming.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts to the Dean and Sub-Drean.
Present at the event included the wife of the Dean, Mrs Azeez and Mr Mumini Alabi, among others.
