The Chairperson of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Kwara State Branch, Mrs. Azeezat Q. Ibrahim, MCIPM, has called on Registry staff to continue to maintain high levels of professionalism in their work.

Mrs Ibrahim made this call while delivering a lecture entitled “The Role of Registry Staff in Achieving Vision 1.10.500” at the second In-House Registry Seminar, held at the University Auditorium last Thursday (July 17, 2025).

She emphasised the importance of adopting a structured approach to excellence through Quality Management System (QMS) and Total Quality Management (TQM) principles. These frameworks, she noted, provide the necessary tools, mindset, and culture to deliver world-class administrative support that enables academic and research breakthroughs.

Mrs Ibrahim, who is the Deputy Registrar (Vice Chancellor’s Office), also charged staff to ensure that students have a wonderful experience on campus by dealing with them with respect. She emphasised that Registry excellence is foundational to achieving the Vision 1.10.500 of the University.

The Deputy Registrar called for training through professional bodies, highlighting its importance in enhancing staff capabilities.

Delivering the second lecture, a Principal Assistant Registrar, Academic Support Services, Mrs. Mariam Babalola, emphasised the need for a review of institutional policies to align with modern workplace realities.

In her lecture, entitled “Workplace Code of Conduct”, Mrs. Babalola who is also the Women Coordinator of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), UNILORIN Branch, called for a reassessment of dress codes to strike a balance between professionalism and comfort.

Mrs Babalola suggested that dress codes should consider climate, occasion, and culture, promoting decency while allowing flexibility and comfort.

A strong Code of Conduct, she noted, guarantees dignity, professionalism, and productivity in the workplace. She emphasised that compliance is not optional but a shared responsibility between the institution and its staff.

When discussing examples of misconduct, including tardiness, unauthorised access to confidential information, misuse of office resources, and conflicts of interest and bribery, Mrs. Babalola stressed the significance of establishing discreet reporting mechanisms for unethical behaviour, ensuring that staff members feel secure in reporting incidents without fear of reprisal.

Mrs. Babalola stressed that senior staff members should lead by example, promoting ethical conduct and setting a positive tone for the rest of the organisation. She pointed out that institutions must create a peaceful and respectful work environment where harassment and bullying are not tolerated.

Earlier, while declaring the Seminar open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, commended the Registry staff and assured them that the management would continue to create a conducive work environment.

Prof. Egbewole noted that by upholding professionalism and adopting best practices at all times, the Registry staff can play a crucial role in achieving the vision of the University.

In his remarks, the Registrar, Mr Mansur Alfanla, congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on the successful Investiture of Unilorin Ambassadors, Distinguished Alumni, and Award of Excellence on some eminent personalities.

The Registrar appreciated the Vice-Chancellor’s support for staff training and development, saying that the Registry Department would continue to rely on his support.

The seminar was attended by Deputy Registrars and other Registry staff of the University.
