The death has been announced of the wife of a former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), University of Ilorin, Prof. Adedayo Yusuf Abdulkareem, Mrs Shakirat Abdulkareem.
Mrs Abdulkareem, who died on Sunday (July 6, 2025) after a brief illness, has since been buried in accordance to Islamic rites after a funeral prayer that was led by the Imam Imale of Ilorin, Shaykh Abdullahi Abdulhameed.
The cleric, who was assisted by the Ajanasi Agba of Ilorin, Dr Mujtaba Yusuf Bature and other senior Muslim clerics, described the deceased as a woman of great virtues who also lived an exemplary and simple life that was not only devoid of extravagance but also devoted to the services of Allah and humanity.
The Janazah prayer was attended by several dignitaries including a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, OON; a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Musibau Adewumi Akanji; the Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services) of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Suleiman Funsho Ambali; a member of the Governing Council of the University of Ilorin, Mr AbdulRasheed Dauda Gidado as well as the National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdumalik.
Also in attendance were the Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, Prof. Medinat Folorunso Salman; the Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. Noah Yusuf; the Vice Chancellor-designate of Al-Hikmah University, Prof. Lateef Folorunsho Oladimeji; the Director, Linguistic Immersion Centre, University of Ilorin, Prof. Badmas Olanrewaju Yusuf; the Director, Institute of Education, University of Ilorin, Prof. Yusuf AbdulRaheem; a former Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, Prof. Shehu Ahmad Abdussalam; and a former Head, Department of Islamic Law, University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulRazzaq Abdulmajeed Alaro, among several others.
