The management of the University of Ilorin has paid a condolence visit to the family of a renowned scholar of Home Economics and Food Science, Prof. Taibat Tunrayo Adebisi, who passed away last Tuesday (July 8, 2025) in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The late Prof. Adebisi, a native of Osogbo, Osun State, was a respected academic known for her contributions to the growth of Home Economics and Food Science as a field of study.
Speaking during the visit at the residence of the deceased’s daughter last Tuesday (July 8, 2025), the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, expressed the University’s heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
He said, “We are very sorry for what happened. Once it is time, there is nothing anybody can do about it. No one knows the moment, the place, or the condition under which the time will come.”
Prof. Egbewole encouraged the family of the deceased to take solace in God, praying that the Almighty would protect and provide for all that Prof. Adebisi left behind.
“We pray that the Almighty God will forgive her. We are all sinners in one way or another. May her soul rest in peace. Please accept it as destiny. There is nothing we can do about it. We just have to accept it, and the Almighty God will take care of you”, the Vice Chancellor added.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Oluyemisi Fawole, who was represented on the delegation by Prof. A. K. Musa, offered words of encouragement and support, seeking divine mercy for the late Professor and strength for her family.
Also speaking, the Head of the Department of Home Economics and Food Science, Prof. Olufunmilayo A. Abiodun, expressed deep shock and sadness over the incident, describing it as a painful loss to the Department and the entire University community.
She extended her heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for strength and comfort during this difficult time.
The team was received by the daughter of the deceased, Mrs Winifred Johnson, who is also a Lecturer in the Department of Home Economics and Food Science, University of Ilorin.
Highlights of the visit were special prayers for the deceased led by the Depuy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole.
Other members of the delegation were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, who was represented by a. Deputy Registrar and Secretary to the Postgraduate School, Mr Suleiman Dagbo; and the Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal, who was also represented by the Deputy Bursar, Mr Muhammed Jimoh Akanbi.
