The Acting Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the University of Ilorin, Mr Paul Ogidi, has reiterated the institution’s unwavering commitment to the safety of lives and property within the University community.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with UNILORIN Bulletin penultimate Wednesday (May 14, 2025), Mr Ogidi emphasised that the security of students, staff, and all other stakeholders remains a top priority for the University’s security unit.
“Our duty is to ensure that everyone can move freely and safely within the campus. The security of lives and property is not just a task,it is our daily mission,” he stated.
Mr Ogidi disclosed that the University has developed a robust and proactive security architecture designed to address both existing and emerging threats.
He noted that the nature of security work demands constant vigilance and continuous improvement.
“We don’t wait for incidents to occur before taking action. Our personnel are trained to stay alert and ensure effective security coverage at all times,” he added.
To strengthen the capacity of the security team, Mr Ogidi revealed that regular workshops and in-house training sessions are organised for staff, who are also equipped with the necessary skills to manage campus security efficiently.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration with external security agencies, especially during emergencies and joint training exercises.
“Through platforms like UNILORIN 89.3 FM and social media, we regularly disseminate security tips and sensitisation messages to raise awareness among members of the University community,” he said.
Mr Ogidi expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the University management for their consistent support of the security unit, which he said has been instrumental in enabling the team to fulfill its core responsibilities.
