The Director of the University of Ilorin Veterinary Teaching Hospital (UIVTH), Ilorin, Prof. Ibrahim Adisa Raufu, has said that the Vet hospital is a beacon of hope for pet owners and animal lovers in the community.
Prof. Raufu, who stated this while featuring on a popular chit-chat programme on UNILORIN FM, ‘Oro t’on lo’, pointed out that “with state-of-the-art equipment, abundance of drugs, and qualified personnel, the hospital is well-equipped to provide top-notch medical care to animals.”
The programme was anchored by the Station Manager of the FM radio, Mr. Idris Alooma.
Prof. Raufu advised members of the public to bring their pets for regular check-ups and treatment, emphasising the importance of preventive care in maintaining the health and well-being of animals.
He said that the hospital’s commitment to awareness, sensitisation, and advocacy programmes is commendable.
The don said that by educating the public about the importance of animal health, the hospital is not only providing quality medical care but also promoting a culture of responsible pet ownership. The hospital’s range of services include diagnosis, hospitalisation, surgery, and emergency care.
Prof Raufu said that one of the most heartwarming aspects of the hospital’s services is the provision of free tests and drugs during world-specific disease awareness programmes. This initiative, according to Prof. Raufu, “demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to promoting animal health and welfare, particularly for those who may not have access to quality veterinary care.”
The Director explained that the hospital’s extended hours of operation, from 8. 00 a.m. to 10. 00 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 12. 00 noon to 10. 00 p.m. on Sundays, make it convenient for pet owners to seek medical care for their animals at any time.
He stated further that “there is boarding facility for your companion or pet animals if you intend to travel for some days. You can either bring your already prepared food or you tell us your preferred food to be prepared for your animal.”C
Prof. Raufu appealled to the public to “take good care of their pets and seek medical attention when necessary.”
