The Acting Head of the Department of Information Technology, University of Ilorin, Dr M.O. Oloyede, has urged students and staff to embrace AI integration as a strategic necessity to help the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, achieve his Vision 1:10:500 and gain global recognition.
Dr Oloyede gave this advice last Tuesday (April 22, 2025) in a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.
He noted that the University Management has introduced a visionary initiative, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can play a critical role in helping the University achieve its vision to be the first university in Nigeria, rank among the top 10 universities in Africa and among the top 500 in the world.
Dr Oloyede said, “Achieving this goal demands innovation, efficiency, and global competitiveness, all of which AI can support”, adding that “in academics, AI can drive smart teaching and learning by personalising the educational experience, enhancing student outcomes, and accelerating research through intelligent data analysis and simulation tools. With AI-powered platforms, lecturers can deliver content more efficiently and interactively, while students benefit from tailored academic support and real-time feedback.”
